Flooded House dry wall repair

Spring & Houston, TX | Services

Living in the Houston area, from time to time, many homes flood for many reasons. If this is your first time, or if this has happened before, hopefully we can guide you through the steps to take care of this with the least amount of headaches.

The first thing you will want to do is hope you have flood insurance. Most home owner’s insurance policies do not cover floods. Most insurance companies deductibles are 1 – 2% of your home value. If you think that the amount of damage is less than this, get a quote to make sure. Make sure that you take pictures for documentation for your insurance company so that you can prove that you have had damage. You will save a lot of time and headache if you document what you have done to back yourself up. Make sure you write down the date it happened, what time it happened, how long the water was standing in your home, when and who you talked to at your insurance company, names, phone numbers and dates of the insurance adjuster that will be taking care of your claim. If you do not have insurance to cover this, please call us and we can set up a time for an estimate and give you the best options possible for your specific needs.

The next thing you will want to do is get a quote. Please call, chat or email us with your needs and we can get an estimator out to estimate the damages of your home. If you have a lot of questions to ask, you might want to write them down so that you can have them handy when the estimater is there to do the estimate.

If the water damaged the outside walls of your home, you will most likely have insulation in your exterior walls. If you have the time and feel confident to cut out the damaged drywall and take out the wet insulation, you will have a lesser chance of growing mold. Reason being, insulation holds moisture for a long time. If there is not anywhere the moisture can go, it will most likely stay in your insulation. Mold likes the combination of dark and warm places. If you are cutting it out yourself, safety is key in anything you do. Make a straight line up to the damaged area and use a drywall saw to cut it out with a straight line. Make sure you take the water damaged materials outside. Any carpet that got wet will need to be removed, not just cleaned. Reason being, cleaners cannot get the water out of the padding underneath the carpet. This is sure to grow mold. If you do not have the time to do this or feel uncomfortable doing this, that is OK. Please let us know so that we can give you the best options possible for your needs.

We know that no one plans for things like this, but when it does happen, we are here to do our part in getting your home back to where it was before.
